Pupillage at 11 SB
Chambers is a leading chancery / commercial set whose members are recognised as providing services to the highest professional standards in an approachable and client-friendly manner. The majority of Chambers' tenants are recruited from our Pupils, so Pupillage recruitment and training are regarded as vital in maintaining Chambers' high standards and reputation for excellence and congeniality.
Could pupillage be for you?
When selecting Mini-Pupils, Pupils and Tenants, Chambers looks for individuals with the necessary qualities and potential to provide a high quality professional service, enjoy a successful career at the Bar and contribute to the well being of Chambers.
Applications are welcomed from both law and non-law students. However, it is only fair to point out that the work in Chambers is intellectually demanding and competition for Pupillage is strong. Therefore, as a general rule, candidates are expected to have or to be predicted a 2:1 class degree. Chambers also looks for evidence that prospective Pupils will be successful advocates and have the necessary drive and skills to succeed as a self-employed professional.
What will happen during pupillage?
A registered approved Pupil Supervisor will be assigned to each Pupil who have overall responsibility for the training, assessment, monitoring and guidance of the Pupil during both the first and second six months of Pupillage. This includes devising a work plan setting out arrangements for the Pupil to sit with and/or carry out work for other Tenants for specified periods of time of up to two months each. In particular, the Pupil Supervisor will hold an appraisal meeting at regular intervals (usually 3 months) from the commencement of the Pupillage.
Successful applicants will have exposure to an interesting diversity of disciplines through their pupillage. Your second six will be busy and challenging where your advocacy experience will be largely focused in the county courts together with the Companies Court and the Bankruptcy Divisions of the High Court. This will enable candidates to demonstrate the necessary qualities required.
Members of Chambers will meet to discuss the progress of candidates for tenancy in June / July of the pupillage year.
