11 Stone Buildings has significant experience in the field of information technology. Our barristers acted for EDS in their dispute with NATS which was at that time described by Computer Weekly as the largest UK IT trial in English legal history, acting in and advising in relation to large-scale IT disputes remains a significant and prominent part of our practice. It is not all multi-million pound disputes. Our barristers also have extensive experience of supplier and customer software and hardware disputes at both County Court and High Court level. Our familiarity with ADR procedures such as mediation, ENE and arbitration has been of benefit to IT clients as well. Those barristers who are used to dealing with IT disputes also put that knowledge to good use in dealing with areas as diverse as telecoms fraud, regulatory issues, data protection, domain name disputes and confidential information.

Alan Gourgey QC was involved on behalf of EDS in the substantial litigation BSkyB v EDS, in which Sky claimed damages of more than £700m against EDS. The case relates to the replacement of Sky’s Customer Relationship Management system. The Lawyer featured this case in their “heavyweight litigation” report as one of the 10 big litigation trials of 2008.
